The ameliorated climatic conditions that prevailed since the fourth century enabled a continuous affluent condition that lasted for more than 6 centuries. Jerusalem and the transformation of the Jewish Temple and Jewish purification during this period will serve as examples of the affluent period effects.

Ronnie Ellenblum is a professor at the Department of Geography and the former head of the School of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor Ellenblum is specializing in the geography, history, and archaeology of the Crusades, urban geographical history, and environmental history. The Cambridge University Press published three of his books: one on the agricultural settlements during te Crusades (1998), the other (2007) deals with medieval castles and the modern interpretations of the Crusades, and the third entitled "The Collapse of the Eastern Mediterranean Climate Change and the Decline of the East 950-1072" was published in 2012. Prof. Ellenblum initiated several research projects, including "The Jerusalem Library Together"
