The border is a hot topic in the upcoming U.S. elections this fall, but what will this election mean for Mexico? How will it shape Mexico?s ongoing democratic transition? How will it shape our rich binational trade, social, and cultural relationships? Please join us for a discussion of these and other pressing questions with Dr. Jes?s Silva Herzog M?rquez, a leading Mexican essayist and political commentator, the son of Mexico's most famous finance minister, and the grandson of a pioneering historian and diplomat.

Professor Herzog studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He received a Master?s degree in Political Science from Columbia University (NY) and his doctorate in Government from El Instituto Tecnol?gico de Monterrey. He has held prestigious fellowships from Georgetown University and the Woodrow Wilson International Center, and he is currently a professor of Law at Instituto Tecnol?gico Aut?nomo de M?xico (ITAM).

Professor Herzog?s work examines Mexico?s democratic transition from a variety of historical, social, and humanistic perspectives. He has published four major monographs ? Esferas de la democracia (1996); El antiguo r?gimen y la transici?n en M?xico (1999); Andar y ver (2005); and La idiotez de lo perfecto (2006) ? along with a regular column in the daily Reforma and countless essays, papers, and media appearances. He was named to the Academ?a Mexicana de la Lengua in 2013, for his broad and diverse contribution to Mexican letters.
