This student-produced exhibit traces the significance of the bonds that developed between Indians of the Southwest and the horse, their "four-legged brother." The Spanish introduction of the horse into the area during the 1700s changed many aspects of Indian culture such as travel, warfare and hunting. Horses in American Indian Culture includes artifacts made of equine materials, items used in daily interactions with the horse, and objects demonstrating the horse?s profound role in warfare, spirituality, contemporary American Indian art, as well as other cultural phenomena.
