Dlan Dary was born in Al-Hasakah, Syria. Although Dlan is blind, he was recognized for his talent on the buzuq, a long-necked fretted lute, and first appeared on national TV at age 6. Largely self-taught, Dlan plays more than eight instruments—including the buzuq, bağlama, oud, darbuka, and tanbūra. He also sings in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.

The film traces Satrapi’s growth from child to rebellious, punk-loving teenager in Iran. In the background are the growing tensions of the political climate in Iran in the 70s and 80s, with members of her liberal-leaning family detained and then executed, and the background of the disastrous Iran/Iraq war.

| Holo Holo Music Festival Holo Holo Music Festival was born from a love of island and reggae music—a genre deeply rooted in connection, culture, and movement. The festival first set sail in 2022 at Frost Amphitheater at Stanford University, bringing together fans to celebrate the vibrant sounds of the islands. With the spirit of holo holo—meaning "to travel, to sail, to move"—the event quickly expanded, reaching new shores in Las Vegas and Sacramento in 2023. By 2024, its journey continued with a highly anticipated stop in San Diego. Now, in 2026, we're excited to take Holo Holo even further, bringing the music and community to Oceanside, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Tacoma, San Diego, Hawai'i, Irvine, and San Jose! As we continue to move and grow, the festival remains a space for connection—where fans can gather for two days of unforgettable performances, incredible food, and the shared love of island and reggae music. Giacomo Puccini’s one-act masterpiece Il Tabarro, Italian for The Cloak, is a dramatic story of love, jealousy, and betrayal. Set aboard a river barge in Paris at the turn of the century, the soul-stirring melodies will transport you to a foggy night of deception and death. Il Tabarro is the least-performed of the three operas in Puccini’s triple-bill Il Trittico (The Triptych). While companies frequently mount double bills of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, they usually overlook “Il Tabarro,” the first opera Puccini composed in the trio. In just one hour, you’ll be spellbound by the beauty and power of this music, whether you’re a devoted opera fan or a first-timer. That’s just half of the program, though. After the intermission, you’ll see the same story told in a completely different way: through neoclassical ballet. Featuring original choreography, this brand new adaptation of Il Tabarro reverses the narrative as the characters are now silent, speaking only through mesmerizingly expressive movements. Ramón Ayala is a legendary Mexican musician, singer, and songwriter known as the "King of the Accordion." A pioneer of the Norteño genre, Ayala blended Mexican folk music with polka rhythms, shaping the sound of regional Mexican music. In the 1960s, he formed Los Relámpagos del Norte, producing numerous hits, and later founded his iconic band, Ramón Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte. With over 100 albums and several Grammy Awards, his influence spans five decades.

Her research and artistic practice merge traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques with contemporary environments. Imafuku's scholarly work includes the historic revival of ancient purple dyeing methods—a complex, time-honored process she has recreated and exhibited internationally. This exhibition features works created specifically for this exhibition using natural plant-based materials, as well as various works in katazome, a traditional Japanese stencil dyeing technique. Through these works, visitors are invited to explore the beauty of the finished textiles and the cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and time-honored processes of life.

This event will be hosted on Saturday, August 1st in the North Park community from 11am-4pm & will feature DELICIOUS soul food from across the diaspora. Most people just think of one thing when they think of soul food, we want to provide the opportunity to expose folks to different types of cuisines while supporting local businesses, large and small. We are taking advantage of the opportunity to bring the local community together, but also provide exposure to different black owned eateries. General admission will provide you access to a variety of food vendors, entertainment, an interview with a book author and more!
