Dlan Dary was born in Al-Hasakah, Syria. Although Dlan is blind, he was recognized for his talent on the buzuq, a long-necked fretted lute, and first appeared on national TV at age 6. Largely self-taught, Dlan plays more than eight instruments—including the buzuq, bağlama, oud, darbuka, and tanbūra. He also sings in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.

Giacomo Puccini’s one-act masterpiece Il Tabarro, Italian for The Cloak, is a dramatic story of love, jealousy, and betrayal. Set aboard a river barge in Paris at the turn of the century, the soul-stirring melodies will transport you to a foggy night of deception and death. Il Tabarro is the least-performed of the three operas in Puccini’s triple-bill Il Trittico (The Triptych). While companies frequently mount double bills of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, they usually overlook “Il Tabarro,” the first opera Puccini composed in the trio. In just one hour, you’ll be spellbound by the beauty and power of this music, whether you’re a devoted opera fan or a first-timer. That’s just half of the program, though. After the intermission, you’ll see the same story told in a completely different way: through neoclassical ballet. Featuring original choreography, this brand new adaptation of Il Tabarro reverses the narrative as the characters are now silent, speaking only through mesmerizingly expressive movements. This time, you’ll hear the same amazing orchestrations but without any vocal parts.

The band name "DOES" is derived from the word for a female deer (doe). Their raw energy quickly caught the attention of major labels in Tokyo, leading to their major debut with Ki/oon Records (Sony Music) in 2006. 2007 – 2010: Breaking into the Mainstream The band skyrocketed to fame with the single "Shura," used as the ending theme for the TV anime "Gintama," debuting at No. 9 on the Oricon charts. Their 2008 single "Donten" climbed to No. 3, becoming a massive hit with over 200,000 digital downloads—a rare feat for a rock band at the time. Mia must learn to use her voice to confront and heal from the past. In 2017, MILCK and AG’s “Quiet” became a viral sensation around the world as an anthem of the Women’s March. That same spirit inspired them and acclaimed playwright Sam Chanse to draw on each of their personal stories to create The Family Album, a humorous and poignant original musical about finding and reclaiming your voice and using it for change. Commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse, The Family Album features a soulful power-pop score by MILCK and AG. Her research and artistic practice merge traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques with contemporary environments. Imafuku's scholarly work includes the historic revival of ancient purple dyeing methods—a complex, time-honored process she has recreated and exhibited internationally. This exhibition features works created specifically for this exhibition using natural plant-based materials, as well as various works in katazome, a traditional Japanese stencil dyeing technique. Through these works, visitors are invited to explore the beauty of the finished textiles and the cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and time-honored processes of life. Joined by David Neptune on Takeda percussion, Christophe Ambrosino on guitar, and Spencer Hinkle on bass, the quintet explores original compositions shaped by Japanese melodies, South Indian rhythm, jazz improvisation, Latin influences, and musical traditions from around the world.
