Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music (MUS 19R) honors the innovators of color who have been instrumental in the advancement of electronic music. Since the course is synchronous but remote across all UC campuses, we present two dance events each quarter as a physical extension of the classroom. These events build community through movement and, most importantly, allow the music discussed in class to be experienced as it should be: in context, collectively, and on a proper sound system in UCSD Music’s Experimental Theater. Music is presented by world-renowned producer/DJ Professor King Britt alongside special guests.
