Artist Sihyeon Park, who studied traditional Korean painting in Korea, explores the sense of déjà vu she experienced in cultural and natural phenomena after immigrating to the United States through the concept of “Vuja de” (the opposite of déjà vu). Her depictions of American landscapes and subjects, rendered in traditional Korean coloring techniques, evoke a feeling that is at once familiar yet strangely unfamiliar. The Sun and Moon exhibition features a series inspired by Ilwolobongdo, presenting 18 works that express the harmony of East and West and the balance of cultures—an essential part of the artist’s life.
