The setting is London during the 1930s, where Jessica Medlicott, once a great stage actress who is now a wealthy widow, is being sued for “breach of promise” by her ex-fiancé, a handsome, much younger Naval officer. Desperate to protect what is left of her Depression Era-ravaged estate, she turns to highly-respected barrister Sir Arthur Granville-Jones to defend her in court, apparently not remembering that he was a former lover.
