In honor of Native American Month, the Barona Cultural Center & Museum presents "Stones in the Meadow: Irving Gill?s Church and Cottages on the Barona Indian Reservation." The exhibit offers a behind-the-scenes look at the work of Gill, one of Southern California?s most prominent early architects.
Over the course of his career, Gill produced a venerable body of work that has influenced generations of American architects and builders. The culmination of Gill?s historic career was at Barona. In the early 1930s, he was hired by the federal government to design and build a collection of small homes, and the Barona Tribe also hired him to build a church that still stands today.
"Stones in the Meadow" showcases Gill?s work on the Barona Indian Reservation ? as told by the People of Barona. Barona will also be offering guided tours of the Barona Mission Church to the public beginning Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 and continuing on the first Friday of every month, by appointment.
