The Harmony & Motion International Music and Dance Festival is San Diego?s premier theater production that features the very best world music and dance performers in San Diego. Expect more than 5 hours of the finest international music and dance in the Casa del Prado Theater in beautiful and historic Balboa Park. The 2014 Harmony and Motion Festival is a co-production of The Worldview Project and San Diego's superlative San Diego Civic Dance Arts. This year we are excited to partner with KSDS Jazz 88.3.
Harmony and Motion 2014 will feature: The Dornob Collective (Persian Dastgah), Ballet Folklorico Aztlan, Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi (Klezmer), San Diego Civic Dance Arts Company (Bollywood & much more!), Allegato World Music Ensemble (Transnational Jazz along with a special never-been-seen-before music and dance collaboration with SDCDA!), Samahan (Tribal Filipino), Kembang Sunda Gamelan (Indonesian Gamelan), Sol-E-Mar (Brazilian/Afro-Cuban Percussion & Dance), Choro Sotaque (Brazilian Choro), Fred Benedetti and George Svoboda (International Guitar), Gloria Lanuza (Flamenco)and Naruwan Taiko. We will top the day off with a grand Bollywood finale by San Diego Civic Dance! These performers are the best of the best in San Diego, many of whom are acclaimed and tour internationally. Professional sound and lighting make Harmony and Motion a full theatrical experience
If you don't know much about some of these performance traditions, fear not! Ethomusicologist Dr. David Harnish (Music department chair at USD) and Claudia Russell from KSDS Jazz 88.3 will take turns clueing you in to what makes these musical and dance traditions so unique and interesting!
