How does a country that covers nearly 4 million square miles with over 500 million residents announce a change in government and rule?

The Chinese Civil War (1945-1949) was not just about ideology and combat, hyperinflation during the war years also played a crucial role in allowing Mao Zedong?s 毛澤東 Communist Army to triumph over Chiang Kai-shek?s 蔣介石 Nationalist Government. This exhibition and presentation by Hugh Lawrence and James Tung will examine the military and economic circumstances of the Civil War, including the hyperinflation of late 1948 and early 1949. This exhibit features actual mailed envelopes with postage stamps of the period, as well as currency, photographs, and documents that graphically illustrate this time of tremendous social upheaval. Hugh Lawrence studied Chinese language and history before becoming a lawyer and pursuing his Sinological passion through collecting stamps, especially from the late Chinese Civil War period.
