The San Diego Italian Film Festival Presents: Di Madre in Figlia (From Mother to Daughter)

The Mondine di Novi are a chorus of 20 women from Modena whose music is rooted in the culture of the northern Italian rice workers and in the Resistance movement of WW II. Over the years daughters have joined the ranks of their mothers along with the collaboration of popular musical group Fiamma Fumana. The result is that today the group is part of an intergenerational electro-folk music tradition. This documentary tells the story of these women and their work, of the war years, and their joys and struggles, and how the songs and culture were preserved and sustained through years of indifference, ending with their diffusion and the steps for passing on to new generations this piece of shared memory.
