The 2014 Wagner New Play Festival at UC San Diego features world premiere productions by our talented MFA playwrights, and directed, acted, stage-managed and designed by our nationally-acclaimed MFA companies. This year, the plays range from the story of a gay soldier returning home and struggling to rekindle a strained relationship to the story of young zoo employees wrestling with romantic love and the meaning of life on the eve of a catastrophic storm. They take place in San Francisco?s rapidly evolving Tenderloin District, the middle of winter in the remote reaches of Vermont, and outer space somewhere in the 22nd Century. They ask questions ranging from how you reconcile your public persona with your private desires to whether it's possible to grow a mango tree in the middle of Vermont in the middle of winter.
